Sangre de Cristo Wilderness Mountain Adventures
"From a distance, the lofty peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Range resemble the razor sharp teeth of a giant cross-cut saw. A closer examination reveals a world of shimmering lakes, dense pine forests and countless miles of trails ideal for horseback exploration."Hiking Trips: Walking without carrying a pack provides a sense of freedom to your explorations. Having goals to reach a summit provides an exciting purpose. Whether you are interested in serious climbing or would just like to "bag a peak" we have designed several trips to accommodate both aspirations.
Pack trips begin with hands-on instruction on saddling and care of your mount as gear is loaded on pack horses. Emphasis on back country handling of horses and natural history make these trips educational as well as fun. Horseback trips include your personal steed, saddle, riding and saddling instruction, low impact camps, spacious tents for two, near gourmet campfire cuisine, gallons of cowboy coffee, layover days with side rides, trail head transport and knowledgeable guides.

Rides are adventuresome, climbing up to lakes that sit above timberline or mountain passes offering awesome vistas of alpine Colorado. Spring trips take place in the ancient Wet Mountains. After the snow clears, we move across valley to the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness. No previous riding experience is necessary. We teach the basics as we ride
We follow a rarely used trail up and over the crown of the spectacular Sangre de Cristo range emerging upon a secluded natural hot spring overlooking the San Luis Valley. Here we camp and bask in the recuperative waters as care and stress melt away. The sights are breath taking and the riding is adventuresome. Some Experience with riding recommended.
This is the trip for the serious rider! Designed for lovers of horses and high country adventure, we literally disappear into the rugged Sangre de Cristo Wilderness, steering clear of main trails and other campers. Bush whacking our way back and fourth across the spine of the Sangres we spend long days in the saddle rewarded by sumptuous campfire meals, views of wildlife and remarkable vistas. Confident riders only.
SURF AND TURF-A fantastic combo: three days riding high country trails followed by two days rafting the wild Arkansas River
.Groups meet in Colorado Springs each Monday. Leaving the flatlands behind, we drive high into the heart of the Rockies. The sawtooth back bone of the massive Sangre de Cristo Range dominates the western horizon as we reach our trail head. Learning to saddle and care for our mounts while pack horses are loaded, we climb anxiously into the saddle.
Snaking our way up switch back and canyon we reach a remote meadow where we pitch camp among the pines and wild flowers. From this comfortable bivouac we spend our time riding and exploring the ridges, lakes and forests of an unspoiled alpine wilderness. With the helpful assistance of knowledgeable, experienced guides, you learn to saddle, feed and care for your horse. After three adventurous days, it is reluctantly back to civilization where a hot shower, sit-down dinner, and soft bed await.
The next morning, it's on to the Arkansas River for a thrilling paddle through the churning waters of Brown's Canyon, followed the next day by a memorable trip along Colorado's best stretch of white water through world renown Royal Gorge. For young or less intrepid guests we arrange a less demanding alternative.
We combine horses, wilderness camping, and white water fun with two nights of comfortable lodging. A Friday evening return allows weekend exploration of historic Colorado Springs.
