and traditional villages on horseback.

For those planning a short stay in the Cusco area, we offer deluxe educational trail rides along Inca pathways of the Sacred Valley on quality, rider-friendly horses.

Add the Sacred Valley Explorer to a Machu Picchu trip or visit to Manu Rain Forest for a complete Peru vacation. Choose one day with us or the longer two day ride.

Suitability: Excellent for all, beginning riders to advanced. We teach the basics. Join us as a single, couple, family or form your own group. We are willing to modify the itinerary to suit your desires. The pace is slow and careful but faster riding is allowable for advanced riders.

Our Horses:

We raise and train horses at our ranch near Cusco. The horses are no nonsense, experienced, sure-footed, non gaited mountain trail horses affording a secure, comfortable ride on steep pathways. Our Spanish Barb/ Paso crossed mounts give a strong, comfortable ride with great endurance, stability and reliability needed for steep Inca trails.

Our full time trainer/stable crew keeps the horses well exercised and in top condition when not out on the trail. Horses are maintained to our high US/UK standards of shoeing, healthcare, and feed. Tack is new, comfortablly fitted to horse and rider. We are approved by discriminating equine organizations such as the British Horse Society.

The Agenda: This is a sample. We use different routes and may visit other interesting Inca sites from Cusco

7:00 am pick up at your Cusco or Sacred Valley hotel… We begin with a visit to Inca Patchacuti famous royal estate at Pisac. Ceremonial temples and sacred stones surrounded by immense terraces crown the mountain. Nearby, we meet our wranglers and horses. Following detailed riding instruction for those who need it and matching of rider to a suited mount, we set off on the days journey. The route is careful planned to take us over a high pass with stunning views, past lesser known Inca ruins, emerald lakes and through small traditional farming villages. Along the way, we pause for a gourmet picnic in spectacular setting. Late that afternoon, as the sun set golden over the ice covered summits of nearby peaks, we arrive at a comfortable safari style camp. Following a traditional happy hour, we enjoy a leisurely candle light dinner around the big table in our dining tent.( L.D.)

Day 2:
A hearty wrangler breakfast, fresh brewed coffee, pancake and eggs fuels us for the days journey. With awaiting horses eager for the trail, we sip a last cup of coffee and slid up into the saddle. Passing deep emerald lakes, we are treated to a noisy parade of colorful shore birds, teals and coots, voicing objections to the disruption of morning routines.

Crossing over a pass, we travel quietly in awed contemplation of the stunning vista. We pass downward into the steep La May valley, riding through small farm plots and sleepy villages. An ears up, quickened pace tells us the horses are close to home. Soon arriving at the ranch head quarters, our remarkable journey ends. Tired horses are corralled and fed. A waiting van whisks us back to the bright lights of Cusco. B.L.
